Chateau De La Salle

building community around a derelict castle

The Chateau De La Salle community inherited a slice of French countryside with a dilapidated château, big empty stone barns and lots of forest. On a shoestring budget, they wanted to breathe fresh life into the estate yet eschew traditional investment that might compromise its ideals.

We helped the founders of La Salle start their journey with a new shared vision for its future, a future that would claim the support and energy of like-minded people. They invited 30 people to the estate for the weekend, and we facilitated an ambition session in which participants grappled with their dreams for the site, the realities, and the gap in between.

Over that weekend and the following months, we helped supporters and the team on site agree and articulate the principles of a community to nurture La Salle into a sustainable reality. The place is now up and running, growing as a meeting point where individuals can collaborate on projects, get inspired, or just recharge in nature.
